I've just begun setting up various websites with the goal of making money through Google AdSense and other advertising programs. These are low maintenance sites that feature a bunch of informative, keyword-laden PLR articles designed to attract visitors. But since I need as many visitors as possible in order to get higher click-through rates, I'm not going to stop here and hope that my content alone will do the trick. Instead, I'm also going to work on promoting my sites, beginning with some free rings that will hopefully give my stats a significant boost.


The concept of these free programs is pretty simple: every time you place someone else's links on your own sites, they'll place yours on theirs, and vice versa. This is a terrific alternative for people who don't have the cash to pay expensive SEO firms to promote their websites, and depending on which program you choose, can really yield excellent results.

There are lots of free programs out there. From the ones I've already checked out, I've learned a few things about what's likely to make a particular program worthwhile for me. First of all, there shouldn't be any membership or administrative fees at all. That's the whole point of a free to begin with, right? But some of these programs try to be sneaky by charging assorted fees, while justifying this practice by saying they're not charging for the links themselves. Sorry, but I'm not going to waste my time with those people!

Second, the truly top-notch free rings allow you to choose what kinds of sites your links will appear on. Even beginners who are completely new to website promotion know that relevant back-links from similar sites carry far more weight with search engines. In other words, back-links from a store that sells knitting products aren't going to help my site about acne products, and won't bring me the kind of visitors I want. So just because I join a free program, that doesn't mean I'm willing to settle for garbage links.

And finally, the best free programs out there offer some kind of statistical package that allows users to analyze the effectiveness of the exchanges. Just as with any other advertising campaign, it's important to know what's working and what's not so that changes can be made where required. Again, just because I'm not paying for a certain service, that doesn't mean I have to be satisfied with sub-par results.

On the whole, I'm confident that by joining the right free rings, I'll be able to get the kind of traffic I want for my websites, and turn this whole thing into a successful AdSense venture!
